SUGA Clears Risk, BTS Comeback Sparks Global Frenzy: Will It Shape K-Pop’s Future?

On June 21, BTS’s Suga was officially discharged from his alternative military service, marking the end of the group’s long-awaited enlistment period. With all seven members having now completed their mandatory duties, BTS’s military hiatus has come to a close.
Suga, who served as a social service agent due to a past shoulder injury, completed his final day of duty on June 18 and used his remaining leave to wrap up service formally on the 21st. He began his alternative service in September 2023, following a 2022 assessment that exempted him from active duty due to medical reasons.

The rest of BTS’s members were discharged in phases over the past year. Jin and J-Hope finished their active duty in June and October 2024, respectively. RM and V completed their service on June 10, 2025, followed by Jimin and Jungkook on June 11.
While no official public event was held for Suga’s discharge, the moment represents a major milestone for both the group and its fans. Big Hit Music, has yet to confirm a specific comeback date, but the industry is already abuzz with speculation about a full-group return later in 2025 or early 2026.

The Associated Press reported, “All BTS members have completed their military service. Today is a monumental moment for fans. The popular K-pop band plans to reunite within this year,” detailing BTS’s achievements. The Hollywood Reporter noted, “K-pop superstars are finally back. Last weekend, coinciding with their 12th debut anniversary, all members completed military service and reunited. Despite each member’s success in solo activities over the past two years, fans have long awaited their return.”
The BBC commented, “Over the past two years, K-pop has shown signs of a downturn, with declining album sales and agency issues exemplified by NewJeans. This is why many have eagerly awaited BTS’s return. There’s hope that BTS will inject new energy and chart the path forward.”
BTS is officially whole again, and the ARMY is ready.
